It presents a diversity of works by guest artists that investigates sound through the intersections of experimental musical performance, installation art, performance art, and beyond. In addition to live performance and public presentation of sound-based art, open discussions invite the audience to further engage with the featured artists and works.
The series was founded in 2020 by its curator and producer, Ross Wightman, to expand the potential of the CCAM Leeds Studio as a space for sound-based performance.
To date, the CCAM Sound Art Series has brought more than 15 artists from around the U.S. and world to share their work with the Yale and New Haven communities, including Alvin Lucier, Pamela Z, Miya Masaoka, Jeff Snyder, Mendi + Keith Obadike, Levy Lorenzo and Peter Evans, Victoria Shen, Raven Chacon, Camae Ayewa (Moor Mother), Viola Yip, Norman Long, Andrea Pensado, Jace Clayton (DJ /rupture), Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Chloe Alexandra Thompson, Ka Baird, and Lonnie Holley.
