Ron Tau

Yale School of Art, MFA–Graphic Design, 2027

Ron Tau (Ronald Tau) is a graphic designer, educator, and founder of Meat Studio, an independent design practice operating between Toronto, New Haven, and Beijing. Working across visual identity, typography, and cultural projects, his practice explores graphic design as both a communicative tool and a framework for cultural exploration, translation, and exchange.

Working between Toronto, Beijing, and New Haven, Ronald's practice is shaped by the experience of continually navigating different cultural contexts, professional environments, and visual languages. His work is often concerned with translation: between languages, audiences, histories, and systems of value. His projects frequently occupy spaces of overlap and contradiction, moving between commerce and culture, precision and accident, expertise and amateurism, global visual languages and local forms of expression.

Rather than treating design as a process of simplification or reduction, his work often seeks to preserve complexity, ambiguity, and multiple readings within coherent visual systems. He is particularly interested in the ways vernacular culture, fandom, ritual, humor, and everyday forms of participation can inform contemporary graphic design practice.

As Creative Director of Meat Studio, Ronald has led projects for clients ranging from global brands and institutions to emerging businesses and cultural organizations. His work has received a D&AD Yellow Pencil, was nominated for the Tokyo TDC Prize, and has been recognized by the Type Directors Club and the Art Directors Club. His projects have been featured by publications including 032c, Vice, and It's Nice That.

Ron previously taught typography and graphic design at York University and George Brown College, and is currently an MFA candidate in Graphic Design at the Yale School of Art.
