12:00PM to 1:00PM

On Friday, February 26, at noon, Al will host the first CCAM Studio Fellow Workshop of the semester.
“Over my past four years as a Yale undergrad, I’ve been making self-reflexive works that contend with my gender identity. Developing an art practice around self-portraiture has become a way for me to explore, stretch, and expand my gender identity. In this workshop, I will present my portfolio of video and written works of self-portraiture and speak to their significance to my coming out as queer, and, then later, as trans. I will also discuss how my practice has been informed and inspired by my academic research into HIV+ artists and writers from the early AIDS crisis–and the poignant works of self- and community-portraiture they created. Given the historic erasure of trans and nonbinary people from official archives, I hope to facilitate a discussion about the importance of making art that represents ourselves, made by ourselves.”
This workshop is free and open to the public. It is geared toward the trans, nonbinary, genderqueer, and questioning community.
