CCAM announces the Fall 2019  Machines in Residence

 

CCAM is thrilled to announce the Machines in Residence for Fall of 2019. This pilot program is based on the traditional artist residency, but instead of bringing artists— we are bringing in machines. CCAM Director Dana Karwas explains this first fleet of eleven machines in residence are intended to be used outside of the original context they were meant for. She sees them as characters participating in a larger dialogue around art making and creative practice.  

 

As part of their year-long residency, the machines will develop collaborations with students and faculty, participate in curricular activities, and will assist the Yale community with creative experimentation in developing new bodies of work.

The Fall 2019 Machines in Residence will be Weather Station, Mini Robotic Arm, Ghost Hunting Camera, Endoscope, LiDAR scanner, Thermal Imaging Camera, Sonar Scanner, Deep Space Computarized Telescope, Wildlife Trail Cam, Mini Wind Tunnel, and Seismograph.

 

Starting in September, the machines will be available for open collaboration across campus. Yale students, faculty and staff can pitch projects to a specific machine and have the opportunity to work directly with it. The machines will each have an online profile showing the collaborative nature of their residency, related experiments, and technical resources for their creative use.

    06/20/2019 The station was officially mounted by Farid and Tianshu, and we had a mini-Hackathon about it.
