FilmNet Workshop Series, From Pitch to Script, Writing for Short Films

Session 4: Polishing the Script

Polishing the Script: Share your work in progress script with your colleagues in advance. Now it’s time to dig deeper. Is it about “killing your darlings”? Where’s the fluff? What’s working? What’s not? What can you work on to ready your script to be made into a movie?

Leading the workshop will be our special guest for the week, Em Weinstein. Em is a young graduate of the Yale School of Drama who has had recent successes in their field. The first half of this workshop will focus on dialogue for film with a performative script reading exercise with actors from the School of Drama from one of Em Weinstein’s recent films. Students will be given the script to read along while observing the dialogue being performed on the page. Following the reading will be a screening of Em’s film, after which he will provide insights on the craft of completing a script. For more on him: https://emweinstein.com
